This Unit will give you knowledge and understanding of the need for, and the role of, the Internet. It is delivered in two sections:

Internet (theory)

The Internet (theory) section will give you knowledge and understand­ing about the main development of the Internet. You will learn about:

• developments in browser technology
• the main Internet services
• the need for Internet protocols
• Internet hardware and software
• how information is transmitted over the Internet
• use of the Internet
• use of advanced search techniques to find information stored on the Internet
• social, ethical and legal requirements of using the Internet.
• Creating a Website.

Creating a website

You will be required to create your own website. You can use any web-authoring software package to help create your website.

Assessment will require you to create a multi-page website, which must show evidence of the following skills:

• using and creating headers
• use of colours and background colours
• creating hyperlinks between web pages
• use of appropriate graphics which will require compression
• use of tables
• use of borders
