Pasting inside objects

Sometimes for really dramatic effects you can paste pictures inside other objects you draw on screen. In Fireworks there are a number of built in shapes you can use like those below.

Step 1

On the canvas, create a shape that you want to paste a picture inside. You can either use some of the in-built shapes from the shape options or you can create your own.

Step 2

Below is a triangle created using the Smart Polygon tool. A polygon shape was drawn on the canvas. The number of sides was then changed by 'grabbing' one of the yellow handles and dragging.

Step 3

Search the internet for a picture to place inside your shape. Copy it, and paste it onto the canvas. Rearrange the objects so that it lies underneath your shape.

Step 4

This step involves using the shape as a cutter. With the underlying image selected, right click choose Edit>Cut. The underlying image will disappear from the canvas.

Then res elect the shape and with a right click choose Edit>Paste Inside. The result is shown on the right.

A drop shadow has been applied to the filled shape. To do this, select the object and from the Filters menu, choose Shadow and Glow>Drop Shadow.
