Summary

An Online Identity

An online identity is how people represent themselves when communicating on the Internet. Sometimes people will use their real names online, say, in their Facebook account, but sometimes they will use an anonymous identity revealing just what they want to (or need to) about their personally identifiable information.

Here you will create a simple online identity by making an avatar and a user id which you will use in the secure online environment of Glow, and also in some other web sites.

How to Change Layouts in Databases! Go Full Screen to see in greater detail?

You can even change:

Watch the Changing Layouts Movie 8 and practice changing the list layout, using colour's of your choice, making it as interesting as possible.

What you have to do!

  1. Watch Video 1 - Create an Avatar: make sure its the right one!
    1. Log into Glow and access (from My Glow Groups down the left hand side) S1 2009/2010.
    2. From the list of websites, use any except Gravatar (which stores avatars but does not allow them to be created) to create an avatar that represents you.
    3. You may make 2 or 3 using the different web sites shown.
    4. Try to make it look as close to you as possible, as the rest of your class will try to guess who each of the avatars belong to just by looking at a list of them. Don't let anyone else see what your avatar looks like at this stage.
  2. Watch Video 2 - Uploading your Avatar - make sure its the right one!
    • In the Glow group page that shows your practical class (e.g. 1P01), upload the picture of your avatar to the picture gallery.
  3. Watch Video 3 - Introducing Forums - Once all pictures have been uploaded, and your teacher tells you to, add your own forum post saying who you think each of the avatars are of.
