9. Using Templates
A template is a file that defines the layout of a document. Templates can be used for things such as letters, labels and newsletters.
Templates can save a lot of time in creating documents because a lot of the details are automatically created in the file, such as positioning tabs in letters for addresses and choosing appropriate fonts and sizes and so on.
Template often have series of text boxes already placed and formatted in the article meaning, all you have to do is enter the text. The professional look of the document is taken care of by the template.
Some of the
text boxes are linked so that when one text box is full, the
text flows automatically into another linked text box somewhere else on the page

- Watch and follow the steps to to create the newsletter from the template in the way shown in the video
- Download one of the templates below and use this as the basis for your newsletter.
- Download both the articles and save them in your Word Processing folder.
- Follow the steps shown in the movie and Insert them into your template.
- Download the picture of the Eiffel tower. Save it in your folder and place this in a suitable location in your template
- Save your completed file.

Alternatively you can download and use a template by:-
- Click on template picture above to go to Microsoft Office On-Line Templates.
- Choose Newsletters category and click on the picture of one you like. Make sure its a Word template.
- Click on the Download button. (if you have a problem choose Download Now button near the bottom of the page)
- When asked choose Accept.
- Save the downloaded template to your network folder. Then double click on the .Cab file. Choose explore then right click on the file and choose Extract here. On an Apple, just double click on the file and the unzipping should begin automatically. Then;
- Open the template by double clicking on it and add some text from files used in the video in the text boxes - watch how the text flows from one text box to another.
What you have to do!
- Choose one of the templates for the basis for your newsletter.
- Download and save both the articles and the Eiffel Tower picture, and;
- Watch and follow the steps in the video to complete your newsletter.
- Save your file using a suitable file name..
Mark off Task 12 in your progress grids.
