Most word processing packages include a search and replace facility. This allows a word to be replaced with another word anywhere or everywhere in a document where the original word is found. |
||
| Find and replace (as it is known in Word) can be carried out in one of two ways: | ||
| 1. Globally – Every occurrence of the word is changed at the same time. | ||
| 2. Selectively – Each occurrence of the word is shown by the computer and you are asked if you want to change it or not, before the computer moves onto the next occurrence of the word. | ||
|
Find and replace also gives the option of searching only on whole words. This can be very useful, as otherwise when you want to change a word like is to are, then you could end up changing history to haretory. Not a pretty sight! This is why you must be very careful when performing a global find and replace. |

(The sound might be become separated from the pictures - don't worry you'll get the general idea of how to use the Search and Replace. You can also use the 'scrubber bar' to wind forwards & backwards through the movie.)
