9. Effect on Jobs

CDP in business has had enormous effect on the way we work, leading to the creation of many different types of work.

Glasgow Airport for example, would not be able to work properly without CDP. As As Marianne Watt says on the program, without the computer systems, running the airport and the businesses that operate there would be a nightmare.

Everything, from passenger bookings and check-ins to making out the bills, would have to be done manually using paper, pens and filing cabinets.

Staff workload would increase, as would costs, since a greater staff would be needed.

There would be delays because everything would take that much longer to organise and process: a nightmare for staff and passengers alike.

 

Jobs CDP Systems have created at the Airport.

 

Job	What they do!
Systems analysts	map out the work that the computer system needs to carry out select the hardware that is needed such as the computer systems, monitors and hard drives select and in some cases actually design the software needed to make the system run properly oversee the installation and testing of the entire system.
Programmers	Programmers take the software designs that that the systems analyst has produced, and write and test the programs.
Data Entry Operator	Manually enter data into the CDP cycle, either from forms or from telephone calls.
Engineers	Engineers install all the hardware and cabling and are called in to carry out maintenance.
Network manager	The network manager carries out very important functions such as:
	controlling who has access to the system by giving users their unique identity codes and by giving users permissions to access and/or change data files held on the system controlling the installation of software and hardware.
